Understandably, the world’s increased consumption of disinfectant is crucial at this time in order to safeguard us from COVID-19. Products with antimicrobial efficacy have never been more important, especially if they are proven to be effective against coronaviruses like COV-SARS- 2, but there is – of course – an environmental secondary cost to consider. We’d like to introduce you to our revolutionary solution to a global problem, Uniblue UDF2.

Anti Viral Efficacy

Successfully navigating the coronavirus pandemic is not only essential to save lives and reduce transmission of this dangerous virus, but also to help ease the impact on the economy. As lockdown restrictions have eased, new requirements have been introduced for businesses so that they take extra measures to safeguard their employees and customers. Now, more than ever, we are seeing demand for effective antimicrobial products for use in retail, business, households, clinical settings and education.

While popular broad-spectrum products, such as quaternary ammonium biocides and hypochlorite based bleach, are effective – they are also based on heavy industrial chemicals which can have a negative effect on humans, animals and the environment. Some of these commonly used chemicals are no longer allowed in agriculture due to safety and environmental concerns, yet they are allowed to be used as disinfectants in the public domain.

Uniblue UDF2 has demonstrated high efficacy against a broad spectrum of microbes including bacteria, fungi and viruses. Uniblue UDF2 has even shown efficacy against the more hardy non-envelope viruses. If you’d like details of the studies showing this efficacy please contact our technical team on the details at the bottom of this blog.

This product can be applied by spraying, fogging or padding and can be used effectively on hard or soft surfaces. Suitable for use in clinical settings, care homes, schools, businesses, shops, on transport and in the home, this product is extremely versatile.

In clinical settings, Uniblue UDF2 can be safely sprayed onto clothing and PPE while it’s being worn, as well as safely applied before laundering. The product leaves no toxic residue and has no harmful effects on the skin.

Registered Under The BPR

The Biocidal Product Regulation (BPR) has been relaxed for ingredients relating to the current pandemic crisis, but usually the BPR is there to ensure ingredient efficacy, human and animal safety and reduced environmental impact. Some ingredients being used currently may be disallowed once this relaxation of the rules is reversed.

Uniblue UDF2 has already achieved Simplified Authorisation (UK) under several Product Types (PT):  PT2, PT3 and PT4 of the BPR, meaning it has been extensively tested for efficacy and suitability for general disinfection, veterinary applications and food and feed areas.

To be eligible for the Simplified Authorisation procedure a biocidal product must comply with all conditions:

  • All the active substances contained in the biocidal product appear in Annex 1 of the BPR and comply with the specified restrictions
  • The biocidal product does not contain and substance of concern
  • The biocidal product does not contain any nanomaterials
  • The biocidal product is sufficiently effective
  • The handling of the biocidal product and it’s intended use do not require personal protective equipment

This Simplified Authorisation means that if manufacturers wish to use Uniblue UDF2 now, it will not be restricted in the event that the BPR rules are reinstated soon, a problem some disinfectants will face in the near future.

Based Entirely On Cosmetic Ingredients

The active ingredients in Uniblue UDF2 are a patented synergistic blend of organic acids and essential oils derived from the cosmetic industry – well known for stringent safety standards. UDF2 comes as a ready to use formulation, meaning no consumer-end dilution is necessary removing the margin of user error.

Similarly powerful disinfectants, such as bleach, chlorophenolics and quaternary ammonium compounds can significantly damage our environment – a consideration which is not at the forefront of our minds at this time, but which will be a serious secondary consequence of fighting this virus.

“We cannot stress enough the importance of this calibre of disinfectant combined with its remarkable efficacy at this time of crisis. To find a product that can achieve this level of powerful disinfection, ready to be used in a variety of applications, is of vital importance to help ensure our own safety as well as that of the environment.

“Our increased reliance on typically heavy industrial biocides will have a significant environmental impact, so an effective product based entirely on cosmetic ingredients can assist in reducing the impact of this pandemic on our fragile environment.”
