Solvay’s decision to launch Syensqo – a standalone company that will run its speciality activities – was announced at the beginning of December 2023 following an extraordinary meeting in which 99.53% of shareholders supported the separation.

Benefitting from Solvay’s unique legacy and expertise, Syensqo’s mission to achieve a more sustainable future begins with its commitment to innovation and to becoming carbon neutral by 2040.

Its CEO, Dr Ilham Kadri, released the following statement:

“This is a historical moment. This turning point highlights the recognition and success of the in-depth transformation of Solvay in the past 5 years. I want to thank all our shareholders, board members and teams for their trust, and for making this ambitious project come true. I also wish the new Solvay a very bright future.

“I am now pleased to start a new chapter as CEO of the new specialty company Syensqo to deliver growth through exploring the technologies of tomorrow, with a strong management team and board.

“Our new pure play company, one of the largest in the world, will benefit from the rich heritage of Solvay. In particular, in carrying on the spirit of innovation of its founder Ernest Solvay, as a true science company at the service of disruptive technologies in lightweighting, electrification, digitalization, resource efficiency and biomaterials.

“Syensqo’s mission is to strengthen our innovation power to support our customers’ needs and environmental ambitions while delivering growth, and to become carbon neutral by 2040.”

Syensqo: Tackling Climate Change

Climate change is a global emergency that’s affecting everyone – every individual, community, country and organisation. It’s therefore absolutely vital that we all continue to work together to collectively reduce our environmental impact as much as possible.

Many organisations are already working hard to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and for personal care formulators to achieve this goal they need to review each product’s entire lifecycle: looking at how their ingredients are sourced, how the product is manufactured and distributed, how it’s used by the consumer and finally how it’s disposed.

We at Chemlink Harke Group are now exploring the use of soluble packaging in their rinse-off and leave-on cosmetic products, which represents a significant area of development. This opens up countless possibilities for joint collaboration with cosmetic brands to expand the application of this technology.
